Best Practice Analyzer (BPA)

Microsoft comes with BPA to check configuration for the various products with best practices which Microsoft has sent. BPA gives the list of errors (noncompliant) which may cause for the poor performance. Microsoft recommendation is to resolve all the errors(noncompliant) for better performance.

Microsoft has release different BPA for products like BPA for Server 2008, SQL Server . MOSS , commerce Server etc.

Best Practice Analyzer (BPA) for Server 2008

Microsoft comes with BPA to check configuration for the server 2008. It is very useful to check that configuration is as per the Microsoft recommendation or not.

To scan the BPA , click on “Server Manager” -->select Role. It may be possible more than one role for the server. Select any one role and click on “Scan this Role” link. If any noncompliant come, resolve it as per the recommendation given by Microsoft (Attached link with every noncompliant error)

Best Practice Analyzer (BPA) SQL 2008 R2

BPA for SQL 2008 R2 checks that the SQL is configure as per Microsoft recommendation or not. Baseline Configuration Analyzer is prerequisite to scan SQL instance using BPA SQL 2008 R2.

After scanning the SQL BPA, If any noncompliant come, resolve it as per the recommendation given by Microsoft as attached link with every noncompliant error

SQL BPA checks and confirm that tempdb is configure properly or not, DBCC Checker is running or not, MSDTC is configure as per recommendation or not.

The BPA Analyzer for MOSS generates detailed reports to help administrators to get better performance and scalability.
